Spring In Your Step - Maternity Clothes

Maybe it’s because it’s almost Easter, spring and the time of new beginnings, or maybe it’s because nine months ago the lazy, balmy evenings were conducive to romance, but there seems to be a lot of pregnant women around at the moment. Maybe it’s just the fashion, as it seems all manner of celebrities from actress to TV personalities are ‘with child’ right now. Whatever the reason, all these pregnant women need clothing and they are no longer satisfied with the shapeless garb of traditional maternity wear. Maternity clothes have blossomed, and the high street fashion industry has given birth to a whole new range of maternity items that combine fashion with comfort and function.

It used to be that as soon as you became pregnant along with giving you your favourite tipple you had to wave goodbye to your stylish wardrobe. But this is no longer the case; just because you are expanding in size doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel good in clothes that are on-trend.

You no longer have to cover up your bump, hiding it behind oversized clothes. You don’t have to live in tracksuits and boring shoes. You can wear accessories with pride, show off your blossoming figure and even reveal bits that you might never have before. Your body shape is changing, this doesn’t mean for the worse.

Fashion this spring is getting an overhaul and you can work with the latest trends too. Bright colours are going to be clashed; the 70’s hippy look is back, complete with bell bottom jeans; floral is a key trend to work into any outfit; 1950’s Americana is a strong trend to try, especially the Varsity jacket and turn ups and fashion gets sporty with shorts, Lycra vests and trainers – good news for swollen feet and a tired back six months down the line.

Layering is still going to be a hot trend. This is great news for pregnant women as your body temperature is a little above normal. Flip-flops and sandals are back as soon as the weather allows, which is also good news; flat shoes open shoes are better than high, enclosed shoes. Loose fitting styles are still hot, so look out for floral smocks, tunics and dresses that can be teamed with leggings during the evenings and cooler days.

New Look has an extensive maternity clothes collection that manages to combine style and comfort whilst remaining affordable.
